Levant as a mosaic of cultures
This project is designed to deepen and spread our knowledge about the Middle East. Our main goal is to show the "human perspective" of the region (with as little politics as possible), recent ethnic structure and cultural and religious heritage.
The name Levant labels mostly the territory that lays between the Mediteranean Sea, the Taurus mountains, Mesopotamia, the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea. Nowadays, the area is divided between Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Jordan.
First traces of human existence in the region goes back to the paleolithic era, and are dated aproximately 1.4 milion years old. The area is a link between three continents, Africa, Asia and Europe, and connects cultures that have ever inhabited the lands. And what might be even more important, it is a link between three great religions - Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
